Excel features and formulas in Word tables
You can add, subtract, multiply and divide the numbers in any two cells and place the answer in any open cell in the table.
You can add a column or row of numbers and place the sum in the next open cell of the row or column.
(You can’t have any empty cells in the column or row)
Each cell in a table has a location address that references its column and row in the table. Columns are alphabetical and rows are numerical from the top / left cell which has an address of A1.
The column location comes before the row location. Examples: C4, b3 (the letters don’t need to be capitalized)
The function symbols are:
+ add
- subtract
* multiply
/ divide
Place the cursor in the cell where you want the answer.
Go to the Table menu on the tool bar and select Formula.
A pop-up
menu will appear with the default formula for adding a column or row of numbers.
If you wish to add the numbers, just click enter.
If you wish to do one of the other functions, highlight the formula, leaving the = symbol.
Next to the = symbol, type the location of the first cell in your formula, then the function symbol, then the location of the second cell or needed number, in your formula.
Examples: =b3*d7 =b3*2.5 =d4/6 =A3-2 =c9-b2
